Bayer Leverkusen secured their second Bundesliga title in just two seasons under head coach Julian Nagelsmann, after securing a 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on Sunday.

The match was a tense affair as both teams looked to secure their place in the top flight for another season. However, it was Bayer Leverkusen who came out on top, thanks to goals from Julian Weigl and Kevin Volland.

The victory was all the more impressive given that Leverkusen had been struggling with injuries and form throughout the season. But the team rallied together and produced one of their best performances of the campaign.

Nagelsmann praised his players for their resilience and determination, saying: "We knew we were playing against a tough opponent and it took us a while to get into our rhythm. But we showed great character and composure to come away with three points."

The win means that Bayer Leverkusen will be crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time since 2015. The team now looks set to make a push for European football next season, with many predicting they will challenge for the Champions League places.

For 1. FC Köln, it was a disappointing end to the season. Despite having a strong squad and a manager in Thomas Tuchel, they could not overcome the strength of Bayer Leverkusen's attacking play.

Tuchel admitted defeat, saying: "It was a tough game and we didn't have enough chances to score. It was a good performance by our opponents, but we couldn't find the back of the net."

Despite the disappointment, Tuchel remains optimistic about the future of the club, saying: "I'm confident that we can improve and fight for the top spots next year. We have a strong squad and we have the potential to compete at the highest level."
