Lucas Lamela has signed a new contract with Sevilla until 2026, according to the club's official website. The Argentine forward, who joined Sevilla from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2019, has been an important player for the Spanish side since his arrival and has scored 15 goals in 48 appearances for them this season. Lamela had initially signed a four-year contract with Sevilla but he extended his stay at the club by two years earlier this year. He has now signed a further two-year deal with the Andalusian club. "Lucas is an exceptional talent," said Sevilla president Jose Ignacio Landaluce. "He has already achieved great things with us and we want him to continue doing so for many more years." Lamela's signing was welcomed by fans of the club after a difficult season for them under manager Julen Lopetegui. The team finished eighth in La Liga last season and were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the semi-finals. However, they have made a strong start to the current campaign, winning their opening three games and looking like a genuine contender for the title. Lamela's goal against Real Madrid on Sunday was also a highlight of the season so far. Despite his success at Sevilla, Lamela has struggled to find regular football time at Spurs over the past few seasons. He has played just six times for the club this season and has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in recent months. But Sevilla's decision to extend his contract shows that the club believe in his ability and potential as a player. With another two years under his belt at the club, Lamela will be hoping to continue his impressive form and help Sevilla challenge for the top spots in La Liga this season. |
